Maybe my opinion is a bit biased and I'm just being a homer but, despite all the down talk I have heard about the Sabres losing Drury and Briere, I still have to count them as a cup contender. Sorry to rain on your parade Leaf fans but if the other night was indicative of what to expect look out. Derek Roy is primed a breakout season especially with his linemates Vanek and Max unchanged. Drew Stafford should replace the lost scoring by Drury. The only thing left is lost leadership which should come from within this group. I also have a feeling that Ryan Miller still hasn't shown his best stuff yet.

Other teams Im expecting to be challengers have got to be the NY Rangers. How can you screw up signing both Drury and Gomez? They have solid goaltending as well. If they don't show up deep in the playoffs something is wrong with them.

Pittsburgh has got to be the other contender in the east. Too much talent on this team not to be there in the end.

Assuming Hasek's aging body can hold up I see no reason why Detroit doesn't come out as one of two teams in the west.

Colorado may be back up on their horse this year as well. Is there anything not to like about Paul Stasny?
