Good point about the overworked/stress component of obesity. Also, I wonder if economically stressed areas have a higher incidence of obesity. I am all for making standardized lunches (e.g. cafeteria food) healthier with posted nutririon facts...besides if parents really want their children to eat unhealthy let them brown bag fried twinkies and hot dogs ...mmmmm) People are still generally sheep, let's use it to their advantage instead of brainwashing them for once. People who eat healthier do much better in the long run. The government has done a few good things in this respect....floridation of water (decreases tooth decay) heavy promotion via nutition guidelines of fruits and vegetables (antioxident/vitamin consumption).

As for the weight problem, im sure your welll aware that this is an expanding problem everywhere, even here north of the border.
When I was a child video games were a treat. My dad would take me to an arcade on a Saterday night after a hockey game and let me blow $3.00 in quarters. I had to stand up to play and $3.00 bucks didnt last long.
Ive done the same with my boy. Play outside till you have frost bite but only 10 or 15 minutes on a game. The fresh is better than getting sore thumbs and healthier too.

Big J, I hear ya, as a swim coach myself, I have seen numbers in competitive sports decline with the exception of football and the big highschool sports. Swimming has taken a bit of a hit over the years due to the mass marketing of video games and the internet. Kids have become prisoners to technology and they become couch potatoes.

I firmly believe that parents should control the amount of time children spend on video games and exercise. That in and of itself would eliminate a lot of obesity problems.
