Amongst all the steroid talk today and the Mitchell report I hope it hasn't been lost that there was some good news today for the Jays. David Eckstein was signed to a one year deal worth $4.5 million dollars.

In Eckstein the Jays have a lead off hitter and a full time shortstop that will provide veteran leadership and on top of that no drop off in defensive play at short.

I was getting a little scared that John McDonald would be the full time shortstop and now that is simply not the case. The Jays have their leadoff guy and he is a guy who can really ignite the offense as well as be dynamite in the field.

Unfortunately, he was probably the most untalked about free agent signing ever considering the news of the day. If you aren't on the 'roids, you simply weren't in the news today, not fair for the good guys of the sport.
