Third Base

rolen

Ive already posted on what I think of Scott Rolen coming to Toronto in exchange for Troy Glaus, so I will make this brief.

When compared to Glaus, Rolen will put up the same numbers, maybe a little higher batting average over the long term and fewer strikeouts at the plate. So if healthy, there is virtually no difference between the two at the plate.

Defensively, Rolen is an upgrade over Glaus and I would play him over Glaus had they both been on the team at the same time everyday of the week for that fact.

In the clubhouse, Rolen is a sparkplug, the closest comparison I would make is that to the likes of Chris Drury, the guy wants to win. Hopefully his attitude will rub off on some Jays who have been here for a while.

If Rolen stays healthy hes a 100% upgrade over Glaus in the leadership department alone and that says enough for me.

If there are health problems Marcus Scutaro and Russ Adams are available for third base duty which isn't bad backups if needed.

Oh and look at that, 6 days remaining till pitchers and catchers report for duty. Before next weekend, the pop of the ball into the mitt will be heard throughout Florida and the MLB spring training sites.
