All this talk about relieving prices at the pump is garbage. In the end all it is, is a short term fix. Thats it and nothing more. What it will do is get more people thinking they can use more instead of conserving.and making the necessary lifestyle choices and demanding what we should be striving for both short and long term.

What we should be striving for both short and long term is alternative fuels and getting the necessary infrastructures in place and better fuel efficiency out of the vehicles that are sold. Those will ultimately be the two long term solutions.

The other, no one in this country seems to be ready to embrace and that is just straight forward conservation whether its investing the smaller car that burns less fuel or simply getting in the habit of turning off lights to conserve electricity.

Our president and his party in general seem to think that drilling in ANWAR is the answer to all our energy needs. They say a million barrels of oil a day. No matter how clean they make it if they do it, there is A) no guarantee that oil is even there B) Its protected wildlife refuge that someday I wouldn't mind taking a trip to see and C) Even if the oil is there, its not a long term solution either. They say a billion barrels might be there. At our current consumption rate that is gone in three years.

Whether its a global warming thing, an environmental/pollution thing or just the fact that we as a civilzation cannot depend upon oil for the long term future of our energy needs we need to make more changes than just having a summer long holiday of the gas tax. What that will ultimately do is promote business as usual and by the end of the summer, when you look at supplies, prices will shoot right back up when the taxes are back in place and we will all be bitching about the same problem.

Instead of bitching, lets realize the facts, and begin to make the long term adjustments to the sources of the problem not a quick fix that will ultimately come back and bite us in the ass. We are supposed to be the leader of the world and yet all we can come up with is a tax break? Lets lead this world and figure out a real, long term solution.
