The house overwhlemingly passed a bill today to sue OPEC. They state in the bill that OPEC controls the oil market and its pricing my limiting supply and thereby violates anti-trust laws. The White House is against the bill which I am for once in total agreement on, but not for the reasons that they are.

The White House feels that this bill would create retaliatory reactions against US interests and possibly lead to a further reduction in foreign oil available for US consumption thereby creating less supply and even higher prices. That may be the case but Im against it for a whole other reason.

Look, instead of trying to think of ways to make the drug we are addicted to cheaper or spur up more supply that is limited no matter where you drill at this point, we should be forward thinking. OPEC is draining every last penny out of the ground that it can and maybe they are controlling supple to drive up prices and maybe they are not, but we should be thinking of ways to leave OPEC out of our energy equations.

If we create and promote alternative fuels, drive cars that are more economical and have better mileage standards, consume less and conserve energy, we will eliminate our need for OPEC without having to sue them and trigger more hate in that region.

Even if it worked, what would it solve? We would go back to our old ways and forget about the fact that there really are issues both with supply of oil and with the environment that need to be addressed more so than the fact that OPEC is controlling prices. Stop the addiction and you stop any influence OPEC has on our country, plain and simple.
