The Buffalo Marathon

Yesterday I worked the Buffalo Marathon. I worked in the medical tent with several other of my colleagues from People Inc's Elmwood Health Center.
It was fun and a learning experience. I have never seen a live marathon. We were stationed at the finish line so when they crossed if they needed any kind of medical attention including ice, stretching, medical, blisters popped or were fatigued and needed to lay down, we were there.
Watching runners cross the finish line, I realized that runners of this race are a different breed altogether. They are out there to finish that race, run, walk, or crawl across that line. Some propbably don't realize what they got into and those are the ones who come to the medical tent and there are the others have been there and done that.
It was great working it and seeing the runners and realizing that I could do it if I really wanted to. There were runners who were not much better shape than me crossing that finish line. Their faces with this look of both joy and the pain of completing the worlds most grueling sporting event other than the Iron Man Triathalon. A true runners high.
So, while I may not realize this goal, but next year, Im not volunteering. Im running in the damn thing. being there I got some motivation. I do have options if I chicken out of the whole marathon, I can do the half marathon but Im going to start out shooting for the full and seeing what happens. '
