Ping Pong at the Olympics?

table tennis

Seriously? Ping Pong an Olympic sport? Whats next? Billiards? Darts? How bout bowling. Of the 28 sports at the summer games ping pong or how they justify having by calling it "table tennis" (makes it sound more athletic) does not belong in there.

I can see adding golf. Its bad enough they were trialing ball room dancing. Thats just an embarassment. How do you win at ballroom dancing. I realize that diving, synchronized swimming and gymnastics all have a subjectiveness to them that makes them so difficult at times to choose a clear cut winner, but they do have a long time history of competitiveness throughout their respective sports.

No one, prior to reality TV competed in dancing. You dance because you enjoy it, you like music. Not to beat other people. Divers, dive to win competitions. Sychronized swimmers, sychronize their swims to compete against other sychronized swim teams. Gymnasts compete against other gymnasts and in all those there is a high degree of athleticism involved or skill.

Don't believe me, go watch the Tonawanda Aquettes. They are some of the most gifted swimmers around and when they do what they do, they require a high degree of balance and body control in the water along with extremely strong core musculature.

Ping pong? seriously? Ping pong as a sport in the Olympics has the ancient Greeks rolling over in their graves.
