The Sabres have been stocking up on rookies and draft picks, signing new players into the fold because officially, as of today, they have their own farm team, the Portland Pirates will replace long time farm team the Rochester Americans as the affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres.

Im a little sad to see Rochester go, not only because Buffalo has a ton of fans in Rochester because of the proximity but because its been such a long history with Rochester.

However, Rochester has had their problems and the problems were too big to be ignored and so Buffalo picks up a farm team with a rich history and one that has a lot of support from the community.

What it will also mean is a full squad from which Buffalo can draw upon for call ups instead of a half team in Rocherster, which for the last few years they were sharing with the Florida Panthers. It will mean a little more depth is available and with the injuries they have had at times the last two years, it will be nice to know your not limited in your call ups.
