Socializing Energy and Healthcare
Two things that should be socialized are Energy and Healthcare. Canada has done it successfully, Britain has done it successfully, France, Cuba, and last time I checked not all those countries are communist countries.
Those who are against it are ultra republican, free market rules everything. Fine for you, we will privatize schools, police and fire. However, if we do this, we must warn you that before the police or fire can come to your home you will have to be able to pay up front.
Think about that, if police and fire protection were not socialized we would be paying for those too. We do pay for them in taxes, but I guarantee that its cheaper paying taxes to get those services than it would be paying out of pocket for a fire truck to pull up to your home. Who would want to live in a country where police and fire protection are not available 24/7 if needed.
The same can be said for energy. The government shouldn't necessarily be responsible for drilling and exploration but they should have some price controls in place.
Healthcare should be guaranteed to every citizen of the United States. Healthcare is not a privilege, its a right. plain and simple. It should be a single payer, government run system which would guarantee health coverage to every single solitary US citizen.
Healthcare is somewhat socialized already for those who can't afford it and those who qualify for Medicare. Their are plenty of programs available, people need to take the initative to apply for coverage. Many institutions have individuals who can assist. Energy is socialized as well through federal regulations. They don't however directly control price, at least on the surface. They also control where our energy comes froms.
Yes, but why not go the distance on health care and cover everybody, its not the ones on Medicaid and Medicaire that have to worry, its the one with Blue Cross/Blue Shield or Independent Health or some other HMO who only pays for certain things and charges co-pays or refuses to pay for surgeries....Medicaid and Medicaire are basically socialized, you still have to wait forever and day to get certain things like durable medical equipment which really there should be no wait as long as there is appropriate justification.
The Federal government does not control gas at the pump or oil.
They do regulate the electric company and the gas company so as I posted on today, why not turn oil companies into utilities as well, they would then be regulated and any increase in price would have to be explained to the consumer just like if National fuel raises their rates or if Niagara Mohawk raises theirs.
Everything you support involves increasing TAXES. You may not realize it it because as Barb said you are blind or have tunnle vision when it comes to politics. People need to make an honest living. Everything has a price, nothing is free. While some things may be needed they are not rights and need to be earned by everyone. An individuals lack of ability to earn, save for their needs, and spend money where it should be spent is no ones problem but their own.
