Top Heavy Metal Bands

I have to disagree with a lot of this list of the top 25 heavy metal bands as posted by Yahoo Music. Black Sabbath while pioneers in their day, do not deserve the number one spot. My top five would be as follows:

1. Metallica- While not my favorite band (I own nothing by them) I do respect their contributions to the world of heavy metal. I love heavy rock music but never considered myself a fan of "metal". Metallica though did something with the genre, they actually made it listenable.

2. Led Zeppelin- The only top five pick I agree with. Zeppelin was all that and more.

3. Rush- Look, why they are on the list I don't know because I really don't consider them "Metal", but they are there and amongst the bands on there, they have lots of things going, first being that they are still after nearly 35+ years still making quality records and performing at their very best live. Neil Peart still navigates his collection of percussion better than anyone in the history of rock. You don't believe it, go pick up the live double CD of the Snakes and Arrows tour and then try to tell me other wise. They still rock.

4. Guns and Roses- Why would a band who saved us from the cheesy hair bands of the 80's be ranked 18th? If not for the three in front of them, they'd be number one for saving us from Poison and Cinderella. Again, not my favorite band, I own nothing by them, but their mix of punk and metal was unique enough to save metal and infuse some new blood into the genre.

5. Motley Crue- Yes, they became a cheesy hair band after about their third CD, but Shout At the Devil still scares the Shit out of me. They weren't even on the list!. For Shout At the Devil alone, Motley gets number 5.

A few that had me questioning their spots on this chart: Jimi Hendrix metal? I don't think so. Aerosmith? They aren't metal either.

Here is a lil of my number one:Metallica and a more recent video St. Anger
