Whats the Cost of Doing Nothing?

The Senate is posed to sit down and discuss climate change and transforming the energy structure of this country. The critics continue to argue the same argument that it will cost us more to do anything about it. These are the people who just don't want to be bothered with the hassle fo changing for the better. They are also the oil executives buddies who want to continue to squeeze every penny out of the ground that they can.

Whats the cost of doing nothing? Lets say for the sake of the critic that they are right (which we know the data is in and global warming is real) but just to appease them lets say they are right for now, if we change our energy usage and the structure of the energy industry it could only mean good things.

For instance, we are going to need scientists and people to research and design the new technology necessary to put new infrastructure and design new fuels/ways to use them. We are going to need lots of jobs in the "green sector" to establish this change. So for the economy, job creation is good right? Thats not a problem.

Some critics say that we would spend more money on energy...but wait a second, the whole premise is that we want to use less energy or alternatives like solar, that may cost a little in the short term but long term solar energy will pay for itself, ethanol, if the right vegetation is used can yield the energy we need. Its all there. We would also be striving to create more efficient vehicles, appliances and homes which means we save when we use less. So that argument dies.

So whats the issue? Is that you just don't want to have a conscience when it comes to taking care of the planet? Its like an alcoholic that refuses to acknowledge that they drink to much yet the empty beer cans and liquor bottles are on the floor all around them.

Even if global warming isn't caused by humans, high energy prices are here to stay because supply will not keep up with our demand. So by changing our ways it will at the very least be good for our wallets.

Wake up people. Do nothing and continue to pay high fuel prices at your current energy efficiency and continue whining about it, because no matter what side of this fence you are on, we are all whining about fuel prices. Or, change our energy infrastrure, improve efficiency, use less, conserve, develop new and renewable which equals cheaper in the long term, and if global warming is human induced which to appease the nay sayers im saying it isn't, but IF it is, then we solve that problem too and take care of the planet.

The choice is simple and our senate should have some easy decisions to make.
