Sabres Keep Dineen

Kevin Dineen by you.

Kevin Dineen has been kept around to coach the Portland Pirates. Its about time this guy is on our side. I remember Kevin Dineen as a Hartford Whaler. He was also a Sabre Killer in the late 80's and early 90's with the Whalers and Philadelphia Flyers.

He is now a member of the "Sabres I think should go into the Hockey Hall of Fame". With 355 goals and 405 assists for 760 points for his career, he had more goals and points than Igor Larionov. He also posted two 40 goal seasons and while not dominating, I would say he was a much more dominating player than Igor Larionov ever was.

In addition, Dineen also holds the distinction as being one of only five players in the history of the NHL to score more than 350 goals while spending over 2000 minutes in the penalty box. He could score and he could kick ass. What a great combination. That stat alone is worth Hall consideration.

So, I am adding him to the list of Sabres who deserve the Hall, Im also predicting, but by no means wishing, that if anything happens to Lindy Ruff (a bad start and subsequent firing) Kevin Dineen will be the next in line as coach of the Buffalo Sabres.

Can anyone name the other five with 350 goals and 2000 penalty minutes?

My first guess.....Mark Messier?
