Should Not Have Happened
Evangelical minister Rick Warren and his Saddleback Church or what ever the hell they call it was the place for the big first time on stage together for Barack Obama and John McCain for this presidential campaign. Does anyone see anything remotely wrong with this?
An evangelical minister gets to interview these guys one on one and people were watching this live on national television for it to influence their opinion on who they vote for. A church and its respective minister has a chance influence the outcome of this election?
Separation of church and state folks has obviously been thrown out the window. I don't care what kind of questions he asked or which candidate he asked them to, he had an agenda from and he pursued his agenda in the questions he asked.
So, if this is going to be the benchmark for these types of "debates" or "interviews" then why not have a Rabbi or Muslim or for that matter an Atheist interview them on live national television? How do the evangelicals get this thing and not some other faith?
Why does it matter who these guys worship if at all? Its a joke and a blunder in the political process to allow religion to have such an impact. John McCain and Barack Obama are not trying to become ministers, they are trying to become leaders of what is supposed to be the most powerful country on earth. I think its sad that religion has come to play an increasingly large part in the process.
Although I very much agree, it is naive to believe in separation of church and state. We exist in a republic/democracy and probably over 90% of voters are "believers". The general public wants a candidate who will promote a shared ideology.
Looks like a real love fest. The church is a huge part of peoples lives. You have to be blind or self indulged not to realize it. The seperation of church and state was intended to allow citizens the freedom to worship as they choose without fear of reprecutions from the govt. The govt. can appear to support one religion over another. That is why they can't teach religion in public schools. They are controlled by the govt. at multiple levels so teaching a paticular religon would make it appear as if the govt. supported it. This country was founded on christan values like it or not. If you bieleve or not without religon the world would be a very different place.
Yes, absolutely Roland the world would be a different place without religion, there would be a lot less wars fought over the years. Go figure, something that is at the surface so peaceful has brought on dozens of wars over the years, including the Iraq war, 9/11 both averted without religion. Even WWII had relgious undertones. Hitler wanted to kill all the Jews.
Yes separation of church and state was intended to allow citizens the freedome to worship as they choose or to not worship at all. It also meant that the church would have no influence over the government and vice versa. Instead, the evangelicals get to have an impact on the highest office in the land. Why is that? Why do they get to run an interview or what ever the hell it was and the Jews or atheists dont?
Religion needs to stay out of politics. Politics is about leading this country with common sense not with faith. I don't care what religion our next president is, it makes no difference to me nor should it to anyone. What matters is are they going to lead this country is a good direction far from the way George W. has screwed it up.

Iraq is about a who host of things, our lying president, oil, religion. Our president misled us on the whole Iraq war anyway. We should have never even invaded that country in the first place.
