The Aurora Trout

Aurora Trout

My supervisor Brian at the Elmwood Health Center also departed today, for a vacation that will take him to the great white north into Sudbury on a bear hunt. He is on a quest to bag himself a big bear but the story that interested me the most was the fish he could potentially catch.

The Aurora Trout, Salvelinus fontinalis timagamiensis, is a rare sub species of brook trout and is only found in two lakes in Canada. Fishing is only allowed for these things every two years or so and it costs $200 per person to go out on a boat and fish for this thing.

What ever you catch you keep and you only get to catch and keep one fish. Turns out that this is the first year in five years that they have opened up the lake that he is staying by to fish for this particular trout. What are the odds. For me, forget the bear Im going after the fish. As for Brian, its the other way around and if he nabs a bear hopefully Ill get some pictures from him to post and hopefully he'll get a shot at and catch one of those trout for me to post on as well.

In the mean time he is out of range to communicate so good luck to him on his outdoors adventure!
