Obama V. McCain Round 3

Democrats vs. Republicans

I am still puzzled why this is a two person debate. There should be a third party, but for now I will focus on the two that are on the stage. Obama for all intensive purposes has this thing won. McCain has gone into the toilet to dig out his campaign slogans and attacks over the last few weeks and its not working.

Mark my words, if McCain goes after Obama with anything about Bill Ayers or The Reverend Wright (which I thought was already done 100 times over and dismissed) then it should and will blow up in his face and there will be backlash.

The backlash will be from the independent voters who have half a brain that know that all McCain is doing is fighting a losing campaign that has run out of ideas. Instead of talking about real issues that this country needs to focus on when he takes office, McCain has instead gone to the past and dug up connections that aren't even substantial as far as any terrorist connection with Obama.

Obama has remained consistent, his message has remained calm and strong. Though I lost some repsect for him when he voted for the bailout, I still think that given the choice between McCain and Obama, Obama is the better of the two.

I would still much rather see Nader get his shot at these two. I think if he had been involved from the get go, it would be a whole different ballgame.

Here is what can make Buffaloboy famous. Start a write in campaign for the election, but stay away from any candidate or potential candidate. Start the campaign and encourage everyone to write in their favorite Super Hero...

I think the reality of the whole thing is that most of the real voting public dosn't have time to spew thier thoughts or waste their time with blogs, 24 hr news, or watching a canned debate, letting their ideals be minipulated and molded. The media as well as the leftist socialists in this country have nothing better to do. The media is biased, the social..i mean leftists make tons of money in advertising and taxes by pulling at peoples heart strings and masking the realities of the country and the world under an umbrella that more taxes and money thrown at it can fix the whole thing. Dont get me wrong when it comes to making money the right is as guilty but in a much purer sense. You need to work, earn a living and occationaly spend some of what you earn on something besides your self (because after all it is the right thing to do). Don't give hand outs. Everyone has the same opportunities in this country they need to pursue them. A quote from a once popular political figure "Take from each according to their ability, give to each according to their need" Sounds much like the leftists point of view. lets hope we dont end up there, we know what happend to that form of govt.and those looking for the hand outs.

Jillinda, I would disagree, having worked with families from poor socio-economic backgrounds, not everyone is on the same playing field. People who live in poor communities are born into it. They don't recieve the same educational opportunities and therefore are not as aware of their opportunities that they can or cannot pursue. They need to be made aware of the opportunities and be provided with assistance to help them bridge the gap. While I will agree, there are a fair number living on the gravy train, there are also many who are stuck in a rut and they need assistance to get them out of that rut despite making honest efforts to do so.
Until you work with those individuals, you can't truly appreciate the situations they are in. Many are broken families, have had trouble or are having trouble with drugs. Kids get involved with drugs at amazingly young ages. Its all about the environment that they live in and the support they get to get them righted. That takes money and effort.
Many families are unable to read, write or even speak English. Its not that they are not willing, they need help. Programs that John McCain spoke of tonight like Head Start needing to be reformed, is a total crock. What Head Start needs is funding. My wife, despite having a bachelors and working on her masters degree makes a grand total of $20,000 a year. That is not enough to keep and attract quality teachers to a program that is proven to get kids off to better starts as they enter the schools. John McCain said Head Start programs aren't working, I invite you to come talk to my wife. I have also worked in them as a therapist. Believe me they work. The problem is the Bush Administration and now unfortunately McCain thinks they need to cut funding to it. That would be a disaster for that program.
I think Obama is much more in tune with the middle class and lower class. I don't know about you, but Obama speaks to me. I don't make $250,000 a year and to be honest, those people could probably stand to pay a little more taxes and allow the vast majority of us who don't make that much a tax break.

As far as Obama's healthcare plan, I happen to be a support of providing healthcare for all and a proactive approach to peoples health. We have a reactionary healthcare system in which people wait until they get sick which is sometimes too late to treat severe illness like cancer and diabetes. We have to cover more people and McCain's plan will leave more out of health insurance than with. A $5000 tax credit is going to leave those people $7000 short on an annual basis for their health coverage. Not a great thing. I hope that you visit both candidates websites and really research and read about their plans and educate yourself as far as what they both are intending to do. That is really the only way to fully appreciate the candidates for who they are. Listening to them, Obama was much more presidential in his appearance and demeanor tonight. McCain was cut throat and had the never to bring up crap that shouldn't even be talked about at the debate like Bill Ayers who isn't even remotely related to or involved with Barack Obama. The one agency that they both served on was REPUBLICAN RUN!
While I respect your views I think you should spend some time reviewing because while you seem leaning toward McCain, you appear to be a little independent minded as well.

WITH ACORN facing vote-fraud investigations in at least 13 states, it is no surprise that Barack Obama wants to distance himself from this band of scandal-plagued community organizers. Yet the degree to which Obama's campaign has concealed his links to ACORN raises troubling questions about Obama's candor and forthrightness.

The Obama campaign's FightTheSmears.com Web site tries to "stay up to date on right-wing smears." It now asserts "ACORN never hired Obama as a trainer, organizer or any type of employee." But, as ABC News' Jake Tapper noticed, this updates an earlier claim that proved untrue: "Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity."

In fact, the site acknowledges that Obama sued the state of Illinois on ACORN's behalf, winning a 1995 case about compliance with the federal "Motor Voter" registration law.

But the online archive is eerily silent about how Obama otherwise has been in cahoots with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

The Cleveland Leader first reported that top ACORN activist Toni Foulkes detailed some of this collaboration in the Winter 2003-Spring 2004 issue of the journal Social Policy.

As Foulkes wrote, "We have invited Obama to our leadership training sessions to run the session on power every year, and, as a result, many of our newly developing leaders got to know him before he ever ran for office. Thus, it was natural for many of us to be active volunteers in his first campaign for state Senate and then his failed bid for US Congress." Foulkes added: "By the time he ran for US Senate, we were old friends."

Obama's site also claims that "ACORN was not part of Project Vote, the successful voter registration drive Barack ran in 1992." Yet Foulkes' article seems to indicate that ACORN cooperated with Project Vote. As she explained: "Project Vote delivered 50,000 newly registered voters in that campaign (ACORN delivered about 5,000 of them)."

Writing in February on the campaign's site, Obama supporter Sam Graham-Felsen cited the Democratic nominee's remarks to an ACORN gathering last November: "When I ran Project Vote voter registration drives in Illinois," Obama said, "ACORN was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work."

Obama's site conveniently omits his other ties to ACORN:

* While Obama served on the board of directors of Chicago's Woods Fund, Chicago ACORN got $190,000 in Woods' money.

* In his address to ACORN last November, Obama said: "I've been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career."

* The Obama campaign paid $832,598 last February to Citizens Services, Inc. - an ACORN affiliate. The campaign originally described this to the Federal Election Commission as "staging, sound, lighting." In August, it amended that filing to show that the cash went for get-out-the-vote services. ACORN spokesmen have admitted that roughly $80,000 of the payment to CSI flowed into ACORN's coffers.

* ACORN Votes - ACORN's PAC - endorsed Obama for president in February. As Arizona's Alicia Russell, the PAC's western representative, said at the time: "He's on the same level we are, and sees our issues as we do."

While shocking revelations about this group pile up, as if they had fallen from trees, Barack Obama understandably will treat ACORN like something only a squirrel could love. But don't be fooled. They're old friend

Did the political defeat stop any chance of Obama's health reform going through?
