Right Wing Over Reacts

gun control by you.
Since the election it has been scary and almost comical at the same time seeing how right wing conservatives are over reacting to the Obama election. One such thing is the huge jump in sales of guns.

Yes guns. Its down right scary that this is happening. How soon we forget that Columbine and Virginia Tech were both the result of guns being in the hands of children and in the Virginia Tech case a college student who were seriously messed up mentally.

The increase sales in guns is for mostly hand guns and assault weapons or semi-automatic weapons. These are not shotguns or rifles that you would use for hunting. These are guns that are used for "self-defense" These people are afraid that Barack Obama and the democrats are going to take away their rights as stated in the second amendment.

Well, this amendment has been seriously misunderstood by the US citizenry over the years and totally convoluted. The amendment reads:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

A well regulated Militia is referring to the right of the army, the navy, the police, the FBI and any other law enforcement or military outfit, not an everyday citizen. The right of the people to carry guns does refer to the average citizen but the primary focus of the amendment is on the military and law enforcement.

Look, I support the right to a gun, a shot gun for the hunting enthusiast, not the shoot a moose from a helicopter kind of hunter (AKA Sarah Palin) that is just flat out stupid. The kind of hunting that you take your shot gun, walk into the woods, maybe have a tree stand or actually track animals in the woods, and then, I only support it if you are shooting the thing with the intention of using the carcass for food or some useful purpose.

These people buying guns for self defense like assault weapons and hand guns are asking for trouble. For starters, rarely will those guns ever be used for the purpose they are intended. The chances of the owner or someone the owner cares about being hurt by that gun are far greater than that gun ever being used for self defense. The average citizen does not need a gun. Period. Especially semi-automatic assault weapons. Thus the word ASSAULT.

Barack Obama and the democrats do not want to take your guns away or take away your right to own a gun, they want to make background checks a little more invasive so that a Virginia Tech or Columbine doesn't happen. So that guns have less of a chance of ending up in the hands of the mentally disturbed. True you will always have the occasional nut case who will get one anyway, but why not make it more stringent. I'm sure the responsible gun owner would agree and won't mind the extra precautions in the gun purchasing process to make sure they are not put into the hands of people who shouldn't have them.

I guess we need to maintain the system of checks and balances that was lost. Better keep in line. He wants to form a malitia of citizens, an army of sorts, like all dictators. Why not spend the tax dollars on the military? Well we need to be ready. When the communist movement gets out of hand we need to be ready to protect the constitution. For the people by the people, not the govt. He is "THE WEDGE" after all.

Dude, seriously, you need help. more guns equal more violence. Thats a fact. No matter what the intentions are, more guns mean more chances of someone being shot. It means more chances of some psycho that slips through the system and another Virginia Tech.
He wants to ban assault weapons....give me one good reason why any self respecting average non law enforcement American citizen would need a semi-automatic assault weapon? There is no reason. This rise in gun sales makes us all LESS safe for the fact that there are more guns out there. There is a greater chance that a kid is going to find a gun in the house and accidently shoot himself or someone else. There is a greater chance that a pyscho, with no medical background or mental illness check will land himself a gun and go on a shooting spree. Let me repeat, I respect those who own guns for hunting, thats fine, abide by your state laws and respect the animal when you hunt and do what you will, but I do not agree with the need for an assault weapon in the hands of just anyone.

Dude, More guns does not equal more violence. Show me the data on that. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. So technicaly either way you look at it, it should equalize itself out eventually. Those who want Guns for an illeagle purpose will get them anyway. I don't think the reported increase in gun sales is a reality or a reason for anyone to be concerend that they will be shot when they walk out their front door. Its all hype.

"Making the expired federal assault weapons ban permanent." Perhaps no other firearm issue has been more dishonestly portrayed by gun prohibitionists. Notwithstanding their predictions that the ban's expiration in 2004 would bring about the end of civilization, for the last four years the nation's murder rate has been lower than anytime since the mid-1960s. Studies for Congress, the Congressional Research Service, the National Institute of Justice, the National Academy of Sciences, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found no evidence that gun prohibition or gun control reduces crime. Guns that were affected by the ban are used in only a tiny fraction of violent crime-about 35 times as many people are murdered without any sort of firearm (knives, bare hands, etc.), as with "assault weapons." Obama says that "assault weapons" are machine guns that "belong on foreign battlefields," but that is a lie; the guns are only semi-automatic, and they are not used by a military force anywhere on the planet.

Speak about the dangers of guns in the home

Unintentional injury: 34,000 injuries per year
Homicide: three times as likely with a gun in the home. The victim usually knows the murderer.
Suicide: risk increases 14 times in adolescents without psychiatric diagnoses. For adolescents with a psychological diagnosis, the risk of suicide is 14 times greater when there is a gun in the home.
Gun can be used against you.

All Im saying is that the average citizen in this country does not "NEED" a gun. Why would anyone need an assault weapon. Having a gun in your home automatically increases the risk of a violence in the home whether it is an accident, suicide, homicide or in self defense. Just the mere presence.

Acoording to studies having a pair of hands in your home increses the risk of assult. Get real.

Then why the hype? the avg citizen in this country doesn't "NEED" half of what they have. Assault weapons I agree with but what they have defined as an assault weapon is really a semi-automatic weapon. Assault weapons are things like gangsta machine guns. Squeeze the trigger and hold on. I think you are generalizing way too much. Then why the hype..because you obviously saw the drive by blurb trying to make something out of nothing. I highly doubt gun sales went up all that much. I'm sure they are up some compared to previous months with hunting season opening up and down the east coast and the holidays coming. If you don't own a gun don't bitch. 99% of gun owners own them legally for hunting, target shooting and collecting. As far as your stats I liken the comparison to owning a car. Obviously if you own a car your chances of being killed by your car, someone else's car, your kids being killed by the car-either accident or suicide-are much greater than those who don't own one.

While I see some good disussion here I take offense to the assumption that it is the Right side of the political spectrum. That in niaeve, stereotypical and I also think I could add raceism (ah..the white folk can pull the race card now.) I think most of the problems with guns exist in the larger urban areas of the country. Last I checked they were loaded with...you know african americans, latinos and democrats. I think you are affraid for your own white ass when this whole thing blows up in a couple of years. Gonna be alot of angry, riots in the streets. I suggest at a minnimum you at least go get a pellet gun or hell even a paint ball gun (it makes a cool noise and it stings like hell when you get hit with the paint ball) for your own protection. Just make sure the barrell is pointed away from you, the safety is on when not firing, don't store the amo with the gun, lock it in a gun safe that only you have the key to. You should be alright then the gun will be unable to kill you, you know....that is after all what the gun desires, steel has brains and can think like a human after all.
