Giving You More Than Just My Two Cents
Joe Strummer 1952-2002
Yesterday, December 22nd would have marked the 6th anniversary of the death of Joe Strummer. At the age of 50 he was in the midst of a comeback and on the verge of being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the rest of his bandmates from The Clash.
My parents had John Lennon, my generation had Joe Strummer. This is a video featuring him and his new band with whom he released quite a few records with that are as good as anything he did with The Clash musically and they were really just starting to gain world wide recognition as a legitimate project for Joe.
This is them doing one of my favorite Clash tunes Bankrobber, the man was born to perform:
Hell, lets throw in another, White Riot, again with the Mescaleros, notice how about 5 seconds into the song he loses a guitar string and the thing is in shambles by the end, yet he continues on and doesn't miss a beat and adds new twists to a Clash original 25 years after it was written with a five string guitar. Simply one of the best showmen in all of rock and one of if not the best song writer of all time:

I had a listen to another Stummer & The Mescalaros record this year and he sounds in fine form.
Previously I had only heard Streetcore, but on the Action Town Hall record Mike Jones is there and it's a more intimate 'live' sort of record. Very cool.
He is missed.
