Woke up to some post worthy music news this morning. The Tragically Hip have announced the release of their 12th studio album We Are The Same. It is the second straight record that has been produced by Bob Rock who has also worked with Metallica. This was the press statement on the album from the band:

"Greetings to all.  We have some very exciting news to deliver. Our twelfth album, We Are The Same, will be released in North America on Tuesday, April 7th.   The album was produced by Bob Rock and recorded primarily at the Bathouse Studio.  It contains twelve new tracks that range from levity and light to melancholy and anger.   We think it has a little bit for everyone and showcases the great range of the band."

Here is the first single Morning Moon:

The Hip should give it up. They WERE great. Then they decided to release one, two, three too many albums.

I disagree, The Hip have only gotten stronger throughout the years. They are a multifaceted group of musicians. They continue to write atmospheric, edgy, and honest music for their massive fan base. Morning Moon is an incredible song that gets better everytime i listen to it. Just listen to the bulb and mirror line.

I have to agree with Lewis on this one. The Hip have grown and expanded their repertoire throughout their career. With so many bands out there that utilize one continuous hook or sound across all of their albums, its refreshing to see a band continue to push the envelope musically. Morning Moon is a song that grows on me the more I listen to it and I am sure the album will be just as great when it is released.

Yeah sorry there Anonymous, obviously you have not heard the albums since Music at Work. They have released some of their best work in the last 8 years or so including In Between Evolution that I think was the best one they ever wrote. In Violet Light was a great record and Their last record World Container probably got the most press they have ever gotten.
Music at Work was probably their weakest release and it was still a good rock record by all standards and especially when you compare it to other rock groups that have released stuff lately. The Hip are one of the few that are still recording regularly and coming out with albums full of new and listenable material. Its not just listenable its quality music from first to last track.
