Giving You More Than Just My Two Cents
Sunday Retro
One of my top three favorite bands of all time is the Cure. One of their albums is entitled Wild Mood Swings which was released in 1996. It describes them perfectly. Robert Smith who basically is The Cure has continued to write albums to this day that seem to get better and better with each passing release.
What I like most about them is this false pretense that they are a goth band. They are that and then some. They are a band that go from goth to pop songs to angry punk songs. Wild Mood Swings define them perfectly for their ability to shift gears not just from record to record but from song to song within a given release.
The song I give you today is off of the 1982 release Pornography which featured to me one of the angry Cure songs, One Hundred Years. I give you the live performance off of their 2003 live release Trilogy. The premise behind Trilogy was to play three consecutive nights the albums Pornography (1982), Disintegration (1989) and Bloodflowers (2000) respectively.
According to Smith the three albums are linked in many ways and was one of his highlights being able to play those albums on consecutive nights.
One Hundred Years, one of my favorite Cure songs, what other song starts off with "It Doesn't Matter If We All Die"?
