Summing Up Single Payer
Okay, Republicans who read BBM, this is your chance, watch and listen and you will learn how and why single payer healthcare A) makes sense and B) works in other countries
The secret is, get ready....Private insurance sucks up all the money.
Take out the privatized insurance companies and you can reduce costs and create a Medicare for all system.

I'm going to gloss over the fact that the presentation is by the "Democratic Socialists of America" i.e. American Communist Party. Anyway.. Mike.. here's what the presentation doesn't touch on:
1. Where are all the jobs going to go? What are those people going to do? Right now, many employees of private health insurance companies pay little to nothing for health insurance through their own corporation because they work there. Take away the private corporation, not only are they jobless, but they're now another body that won't be putting tax money into the system, yet surely will be taking money out.
2. Who's going to set the prices that the hospitals and doctors and specialists can charge? The government? Is the government going to mandate what they'll pay to the medical staff? I've yet to hear this be addressed, but it would be a serious dis-incentive to the profession. Is there going to be a national copay for drugs and services?
3. If everyone can get treated for everything for a simple copay (or for free) how do they determine who gets treated first? If Joe Millionaire wants an elective surgery before Joe Dumpster who needs it to survive, what's to prevent Joe Millionaire from greasing the hospital out of pocket to ensure he's first on the list? Talk about increasing the separation between the haves and have nots.
4. 46 million uninsured Americans, many of whom are uninsured because they can't afford health insurance, now have to be covered. Again, taking more money out to cover people who won't be putting much (if any) money in.
Bottom line is, government is going to create overhead, people can't be losing jobs, American corporations can't be taken out, and the cost to the country is going to be the same if not more. We need regulation of the industry, a cap on premium increases, and a method by which people with no health insurance can at least obtain affordable insurance for preventative care and catastrophic ailment.
Rob you have some valid concerns but again, i point to Canada, Britain, Japan and the dozens of other countries on this planet that treat their citizens with dignity and respect their health. For much of what you said we should be looking to them as to how they do exactly the things you poijnted out
As for job losses, you are still going to need the infrastructure in place to manage healthcare adn you will see a large percentage of those private insurers provide supplemental insurance (dental, disability, and vision,)
What you will see go away is the huge costs associated with marketing and profitting off healthcare.
I love these libs!! All about what they WANT. that is the bottom line. what will allow them to contribute less and gain the most...Rob has good points well thought out. Don't have the energy to respond to your post Rob but love the thought process. It all makes sense. While insurance needs to be adjusted..we need to be careful how it is done. All it simply is when boiled down is who will benefit most from the changes? The doctors? the govt? or the patient? the current system benefits all but the govt. patients can't be refused treatment based on ability to pay. Anyone without insurance can walk into any ER and get treatment, Its the law. The reality of this whole argument is that the govt wants a bigger piece of the pie at the expense of the avg. American. While they have been putting the pieces in place for years to take it over (regulating what vendors can does a small example)I hope for all people of this country the govt fails at this.
I must say that overall I am very taken with this site. It is apparent that you know you subject matter and you are passionate about it. I wish I had got your ability to write. I have bookmarked your site and look forward to more updates.
