Congressman Higgins is on Board
Congressman Brian Higgins is already decided on his vote for healthcare reform and honestly he should be. He has decided to vote for a comprehensive healthcare reform bill (assuming hopefully it meets his standards and the standards that the majority who voted for him want).
Yesterday on Seneca Street featured this:
Higgins should support the majority in his district which does happen to be...DEMOCRAT! Democrats want healthcare reform. We are the ones who voted Mr. Higgins in. Maybe if republlcans/conservatives who go out there and demonstrate could come up with one reasonably talking point, one alternative to the ideas on healthcare reform that are out there right now other than the status quo, maybe it would be worth holding a town hall meeting.
I don't blame Higgins. He could probably see what was coming based on what is going on around the country with the fake out bursts from these coorporately organized disruptions at other democratically run town hall meetings.
I do think however, he should hold something, just have more security present and inform people at the door, if you scream out of turn you are being dismissed, no questions. Don't give them the satisfaction of being able to say that as the representative of our district that you refused to hear the other side, if you hold the town hall with your mind already made up (as it should be) and you go ahead and vote for it, then they have nothing to bitch about because you heard them out.
However, its got to be a civil, productive discussion and nothing of what these conservative lunatics have to discuss is productive, they are all empty points with no real solutions for a healthcare problem. Most conservatives don't think there is a problem and that to me is the real shame about them coming to the town halls and acting the way they do, acknowledge there is a problem.

OK, you can stop saying we have corporate sponsorship, and that we're being bussed in, because it simply isn't true. In fact, while they are your talking points, they've become our laughing points. Read about it IN THE NEWS, at http://teanewyork.com/.
Higgins should hold a meeting with his mind already made up, just so he can say he did, and so we'll stop complaining? Do you think we're that stupid?
EVERYONE agrees we need healthcare reform, but this atrocious, half-baked debt tsunami is not it. Though there are many, there's no time to discuss alternatives, because people like Higgins and Slaughter are racing to pass it without even reading the bill. We just want it stopped, before it hits you over the head like a ton of bricks.
We've been demanding reform for years. Medicaid & Medicare in WNY are not bad programs, but there is so much waste, fraud and abuse that in Erie County alone, every penny the county collects in property taxes goes to pay down Medicaid. Priority #1 is to address the fraud.
There are some very frightening provisions in this idiot bill - you can read about some of them here:
http://albanysinsanity.wnymedia.net/blogs/2009/07/29/health-care-plan-read-the-bill/
Okay then you can stop saying that there are death panels in "the Bill" when there is no one "Bill" yet. The Death panels you describe are end of life consultations that Newt Gingrich was in support of being covered just a month ago. They are also no different than what we do now in our current healthcare system only those services are not covered by most insurance companies or considered a billable service for the provider who consults wtih the patient.
The end of life consults deal with things that we already do in homecare, sklled nursing facilitites, and hospice care. Things like healthcare proxys (who is going to make your decisions for you if you are unable), living wills, do not resuscitate orders which every open eval for various homecare agencies we now by medicare guidelines have to ask about. Patients have that right if they were to code not to be recusitated.
HAving these things covered as billable services insures that the medical providers will do them number one and it insures easier transitions for loved ones and their families as they prepare for the hardest part of life....DEATH.
There are no death panels.....its a bullshit scare tactic.

But you in fact developed a subest that i often care absolutely nothing about exceptionally intriguing. This can be a very good blog to design mine immediately after. Hey! Wondering if your blog entries are self-written? They are absolutely special!
Erecting a Mosque at Ground Zero has got to be the retarded plot in the history of humans, I really assume that it's maliciously conceived, at very best, to insight conflict. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist yet unfortunately this is certainly possibly shameful or wicked, perhaps both. valeria
