Barack "Comeback" Obama

After the midterms in November, I like most democrats/liberals were very down on our party for not stepping up and getting their agenda through. It took a bit of hindsight and a republican ass whipping over the last two weeks but I think Barack Obama is back.
Him and the Democrats have had one hell of a month, the only thing the Repukes got was tax cuts for the wealthy and the Estate Tax adjusted in favor of the rich, otherwise December belonged to Democrats. Don't Ask Don't Tell repealed, First Responder's Bill that somehow despite all their drum beating after 9/11 repukes found reason to bitch about that despite it being a no brainer and the Start Treaty, all done this month.
Look back though over the last two years and really this President and the administration has gotten a lot done including healthcare which is a bill that I have said since it was passed is not perfect, but is a start toward something more later, they saved GM which is now publicly traded again and back on its feet thanks to the LOAN Obama gave them which will be paid back in full via the stock options provided to our government, if GM had gone down imagine where we'd be right now? Obama doesn't get enough credit for that.
Student loan reform, credit card and finance reform all these things have been done over the past two years. So the critics on the left need to quite down. Sure things may get a little more difficult when the new faces in congress and the senate show up in January but secretly I think Obama is looking forward to the challenge.
I, like many democrats can start calling him our president again after the many Christmas presents he delivered this month.

Up Shits Creek: Florida 4, Buffalo 3

Prior to last weekend I honestly started to think that maybe our team was turning the corner, they had been playing .700 hockey for the last several weeks and slowly climbing back up the Eastern Conference ladder and then they went to Florida and swallowed too much sea water at the beach or something and lost to both the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning, prior to the weekend despite the Lightning playing some good hockey themselves both were very winnable games and needed wins to get the Sabres back into the playoff hunt.
So what did they do? They came out and laid an egg. The Panthers embarassed them and against the Lightning their forwards decided to to back to Buffalo early and get ready for Anaheim.
Last night, we had a chance to make amends for a weekend that should have crushed this team and come out and prove that we could beat Florida and do it on home ice. Instead like last weekend Lindy Ruff's squad came out flat and gave up 3 goals in the first period, and that was with Ryan Miller in net. Last weekend if you recall they gave up 4 in the first period against the same Panther team.
All that shows is that this team is not willing to compete and the message is not getting through. Last night they managed to comeback but it was too little too late. How can you come out that ugly in the first period knowing that its December 24th and your playoff chances are already on life support. And I don't think Im overstating that their playoff chances are indeed slim as of now.
Check the standings, 8 points out of a playoff spot in 12th place with four teams to leapfrog just to get to 8th, two of those teams in our division. The Rangers sit 10 points up in 7th. Its going to take an 8-10 game win streak just to cut those numbers in half because ground is so difficult to make up in this league with the almighty pity point.
So, all I want for Christmas is a new owner, a new GM and a new head coach because this group has worn out its welcome. The message from the top is stale. the message may be good for a few games then it goes right back to bad habits and horrible turnovers in their own end. Darcy';s unwavering commitment to Tim Connolly is simply insane. Three players that need to go as soon as new ownership comes in: Tim Connolly, Craig Rivet and Jochen Hecht.
The promises this management made last spring after getting bounced from the playoffs were never met. They never went out and signed any big name free agent or made any risky move with its so called "core" to help improve this team, instead they let arguably two of their top four defensemen go and replaced them with Jordan Leopold who may be one of the only good moves they made and Shaone Morrisson who has been a complete disaster so far.
Its time for change and hopefully with the new year will come new and committed ownership and new management/coaches willing to do what is needed to put a winning product on the ice. If we had a GM worth his weight we would have seen a move weeks ago when things were going horribly wrong. Sometimes thats needed, a move to shake things up, even if its addition by subtraction, but our GM has done nothing while this team continues to under perform.
I'll gladly take a lost season for a new owner, GM and coaches.

You Can't Always Get What You Want

Those words should be ringing loud and clear to the New York Yankees, it was too quiet on the Cliff Lee front and this morning we woke up to Cliff Lee having signed with the Philadelphia Phillies. If not for the cold December winds howling through the streets of New York City this morning you could probably hear crickets chriping as NY Mets fans sit in shock shitting their pants at the pitching staff them and the rest of the NL East have to deal with and Yankee fans at the fact that Lee turned down more money and years to go back to the Phillies and the realization that the Evil Empire and its money tree......
Can't always get what it wants.....thats right Yankee fans, hows that for a punch to the gut, some players, money just can't buy.
So sing along with Mic and the boys this morning, you know the song.......

Thank You Shaun Marcum

Shaun Marcum was traded today to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for second base prospect Brett Lawrie who is from British Columbia, a Canadian native who has the tools to be a great player at the big league level.
Shaun Marcum leaves after a resurgent year in 2010, and while some Jays fans are probably scratching their heads, two aces in two years, let me remind you, they survived the trade of Roy Halladay and came back last season and won 85 games. Marcum is good, but he is no Roy Halladay.
Marcum stabilized the youth in the rotation last year and without him I shutter to think of what last year could have been and for that Marcum deserves full marks, but he is going on 30 years old and despite the relatively injury free season last year he still has a history of Tommy John surgery and that will always pose a threat to his resurgence.
The Jays are also about 8 pitchers deep still in potential starters and these are not push over type guys they have probably the most talented depth chart for a starting rotation in the AL.
So I would like to wish Shaun good luck and Im glad we sent him to the NL and to all Jays fans, relax, we will be okay, we have Cecil, Romero and Morrow and others.
