Happy Victoria's Day Canada!

This goes out to all my Canadian friends enjoying a nice long weekend. We get ours next week so it will allow some of you to plan ahead. I have found a way to get free beer, courtesy of two guys from the Great White North, Bob and Doug:

The Summer Sampler

labatt_html

Labatts has won me over yet again. Since they moved their US headquarters to Buffalo we have gotten an amazing array of new choices from Labatt including my personal favorite the Honey Lager.

This summer I have become hooked on the Summer Sampler. The Summer Sampler includes four of Labatt's quality made for summer brews including:

Labatt Summer Ale (which I am enjoying one right now)

Labatt Twsit (with a twist of lime)- this is just a great addition and is probably my second favorite next to the Honey Lager, though, it may be my new favorite summer brew.

Summer Blonde

Honey Lager- since we can't get Sleeman's Honey Brown over the border this works as a close second to Sleemans.

Four great brews in one 2-4. Awesome. For a while I was all about the Molson but Labatt stepped up to the plate and delivered this mouth watering selection and Im ready to stock up for the winter with a few cases of the Summer Sampler since its so damn cheap right now too.

Check it out, The Twist goes great with salmon or chicken fresh off the grill.

No Excuse for Opening Beer

This guy has it all figured out apparently, he knows how to open those non-twist off beers with just about anything. No excuses if there is no opener around. I have my litte trick with the faucet on the outside of the house.....

Gotta Have Heart

If you check out Neighborhood of fear, you'll see some really cool retro commercials too, including this one from Molson Light. Check out the old style short neck bottles, they should bring those back. This is one of the catchiest beer jingles of all time.

Budweiser Can Not Be Sold

The problem with InBev trying to buy Budweiser is that not only should Budweiser always be an American company, but it would be devastating to have to say that America's number one beer is owned by Begium/Brazil.

I don't drink Budweiser or any of the Budweiser product line (Im a Molson/Guiness guy myself) but there is still some tradition that has to remain intact here.

That all said, if InBev buys Budweiser, they would almost certainly have a monopoly on the beer market all over the world. They already have close to 200 brands under their name including: All the Labatt's products, Kokanee, Bass Ale, Lakeport, and St. Pauli Girl just to name the more familiar names on the list.

Budweiser currenty has products besides their own name that includes: Michelob, Busch, Natural, Rolling Rock and O'Douls N/A beer. There is just something really wrong about another company from outside the US calling the shots at an American Institution.

I also remember when Labatt owned the Toronto Blue Jays and life was good, then Interbrew who was later combined with AmBev and InBev bought Labatts and thus the team. I remember that money for the Jays declined from Interbrew after their purchase of Labatts. If you are a St. Louis Cardinals fan, I would be very worried. Life for Jays fans got a little less interesting after that take over of Labatts.

Rising Costs

Every thing is going up in price, gas, food, healthcare, and as I had known already  but my friend Hank re-introduced me to it, beer.

SAY IT AIN"T SO MAN!

Of all the things, we need beer to drown our worries away in more than ever now but because the price of barley and hops are going up so is the price of that sweet, yummy, golden nectar, or blackened nectar depending on your beverage of choice.

So, Im stocking up now while the price is low and to avoid a beer shortage! DOOH!

Pond Hockey

I didn't go because I was at my swim meet coaching, but from all accounts this was a success. I like the idea of outdoor hockey any where and it doesn't have to be of the NHL variety.

If this is turning into an annual event I will make it a point to be there every year from now on. How great is it to be outdoors in mid-winter on a day as beautiful as Saturday playing a sport as great as hockey.

For those who attended, the NHL didn't matter. All that mattered was playing hockey on an outdoor rink for FUN. No millionaires, no pressure, no worries of winning or losing and playing on nature's ice.

What a great idea and I hope its an every year thing, especially since Labatts is not a part of the Buffalo family.

The Beer Christmas Tree

I wonder if the wife would let me put up this tree next year? 1050 bottles of beer were consumed by three guys to come up with enough bottles to build this beautiful beer bottle Christmas tree. Check it out.
