Fantasy Hockey Update

fantasy hockey

Just like the real Buffalo Sabres, my fantasy hockey team the Sabres died a painful death last week. I had to settle for 7th place and a spot in the consolation bracket of my league. The only good news is that I get a bye week this week.

So now the mission is to be the best of the losers in my league and finish 7th overall after the dust settles from the playoffs.

Yeah! What a goal, the best of the losers. At least Im not the worst of the winners bracket.

Going into the playoffs my leading scorer is Travis Zajac of the New Jersey Devils. He was a mid season pick up and honestly was my most consistent player down the stretch besides Tim Connolly.

Goaltending was not my weakness it was offense and I think if anything, I learned that next year I need to go after offense a little earlier.

Miikka Kiprusoff led the way with 40 wins so far and 4 shutouts. Ryan Miller led in shutouts with 5 but has been on the shelf for a few weeks now with that ankle injury.

Updates will continue as I strive for best of the loser bracket.

Fantasy Hockey Update

For the rest of this 2008/2009 fantasy hockey season I will be updating on my league and specifically my team, appropriately named, the Sabres. Right now, I am in a bad position. 7th place, with 226 points, 12 points out of a playoff spot.

Last week I went 6-5-1, decent, but if I am to catch up 12 points in the next 4 weeks, I need some stellar numbers. I need a 9-1 week or an undefeated week in here to really move up and into a solid playoff position.

Last week I played the Wings who are the 8th place team, so I did put another two points between myself and 8th place.

My star players from last week were:

Travis Zajac of the New Jersey Devils with 4 points (4 assists) and a plus 2

and

Ryan Suter who also had 4 points (4 assists).

Not a lot of offense.

Goaltending was solid for me and it has been all year long:

Scott Clemmensen led the way with 3 wins, a 1.67 goals against and 2 shutouts, on any other team than the New Jersey Devils, Clemmensen would be the clear cut starting goalie, however, in a about a week, Clemmensen is going to learn about this word called humility as this guy named Brodeur comes back. BTW, Marty Brodeur is on my IR.

Last week I went up against the first place team in my league Headbangerz Hockey and beat them handily, 8-3. Last weeks win leaves me at 89-88-27 with 205 points just two points out of a playoff spot. Unfortunately, Im also still tied for 8th with Wings who also has 205 points.

This week I am going against the second place overall team Plastic Soul, so it doesn't get much easier.

Last weeks top performers for my team, simply named the Sabres were:

Tim Connolly with 4 goals and 2 assists for 6 points. He was a plus 3, 2 ppg, 1 shg, and 1 gwg.

Travis Zajac of the New Jersey Devils had 6 assists.

Drew Stafford had 4 goals

All three of my goaltenders each had two wins and Miikka Kiprusoff had a 1.50 goals against, Ryan Miller had a shutout.

Im going to need more of that this week if I plan on making the playoffs.

Fantasy Hockey Updates

I haven't provided many updates so far this season on my fantasy hockey league. Every year I play in a fantasy hockey league and this year is the first year in a while that I haven't been hovering around the top of the league. Its going to take a late season push to get into the playoffs with really only another month or so left in the fantasy regular season.

So far the Sabres (a nice original name for my team) are in 9th place out of 12 teams, 7 points behind the 6th place Mesas. My record so far is 81-85-26. The league scores head to head for goals, assists, points, +/-, penalty minutes, powerplay goals, shorthanded goals, game winning goals, wins, goals against average, save %age, and shutouts.

This week I have my work cut out for me, I go against Headbangerz Hockey who is first overall with a record of 100-57-35 and 235 points.

To date my leaders are:

Brad Richards with 39 points

Travis Zajac and Martin Havlat both with 15 goals

Brad Richards with 27 assists

Blake Wheeler with a +27

Alex Burrows with 74 penalty minutes

Shea Weber wtih 6 powerplay goals (I know a defenceman leading my team in powerplay goals)

Thomas Plekanec despite a disappointing season is leading with 3 short handed goals

Shea Weber with 3 game winners

Mikka Kiprusoff with 28 wins

Scott Clemmensen with a 2.29 GAA and a .922 save %age

Ryan Miller and Kiprusoff are tied with 3 shutouts each

Regular updates every week!
