Mid Week at Frizb's

Frizb_2 by you.

This is Jeff the owner of Frizb's, hes a good fella and believe me, the store behind him doesn't look like much, but hes got a ton of music in this place and maximizes what room he has.

I stopped in on Tuesday, he is right around the corner, I was sick and just stopped in to pick up some tunes to listen to while I was laid up in bed, and picked up a couple of discs for about $20. I picked up:

Roger Waters- Amused to Death

Midnight Oil's DVD 20,000 Watt RSL which is basically everything they have ever done on video

and finally, David Gilmour's On an Island

I have been getting into Pink Floyd lately especially some of Roger Waters and Gilmours solo stuff. If you get a chance, stop in say hi to Jeff and tell him you heard of Frizb's through my site.

Saturday's at Friz B's

frizb-round-logo

Amongst all the excitement with the Police and Elvis Costello show I forgot to write about my Saturday's at Friz B's experience. While my trips have been few and far in between it does not mean I have forgotten about what is now probably the best place to get music in WNY with Home of the Hits and now New World Record extinct.

This past Saturday was a light day and with student teaching next fall, the $$ won't be as plentiful so I may not be able to do this post as often, however, I still support FrizB's and if I could afford anything it would be taking $5 and change over there and picking out one CD every now and again.

This past Saturday my haul included:

1. Counting Crows- August and Everything After- while not a huge fan of Counting Crows there is something about them lately that I like and crave in their music. Maybe its a bit of honesty in the lyrics and the way they write song but I picked it up, I probably will download it to the ITunes and listen to it as it mixes in with the rest of the tunes.

2. Counting Crows- Across a Wire Live in New York City- Same as above

3. The Offspring- Smash- Their debut CD and to me their best. They have this penchant for writing catchy punk jingles as I like to call them and this was their first crack at the big time.

4. New Wave Hits of the 80's- Vol. 13- This series is incredible for any of you 80's Alterna-New Wave/Punk peoples. Some of the standouts on this volume include: Relax-Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Killing Moon-Echo and the Bunnymen and Whisper To a Scream (Birds Fly)- Icicle Works. Definitely full of potential Retro Sunday candidates.

Saturday's At Frizb's

I made it to Frizb's yesterday, kinda conserving however on the expenditure but that didn't stop me from picking up a few treasures:

1. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones- More Noise and Other Disturbances- This was defining CD from them and the first one that I heard by them.

2. Led Zeppelin- In Through The Outdoor

3. The Tragically Hip- Live Between Us- I have owned it on two other occasions and actually still have one of the copies, however, It has been played so much, Its scratched beyond the ability to play it.

4. Star Wars- Attack of the Clones- Yep a DVD and why not get the Star Wars one.

Once again, Saturdays is $5 all CD and DVD items...This week came to about $20.

Make sure you stop by and check them out if you are on Elmwood Ave in Kenmore!

Saturdays At Frizb's

Every other Saturday I try to stop in at Frizb's for $5 Saturdays. Frizb's is this used record store on Elmwood Ave. in Kenmore. They have an outstanding selection for a small independently run music store. It seems like every time I go in they get more and more cool tunes for me to check out. This is my take home for this past Saturday:

1. Rush Remasters- Moving Pictures- I don't know how I haven't owned this one yet but for $5 its mine.

2. Rush- Exit Stage Left

3. Jane's Addiction- Ritual De Lo Habitual

4. The Beastie Boys- Check Your Head- Easily my favorite Beastie Boys CD.

5. Sloan- 4 Nights At The Palais Royale- I wish I was there for this double CD. Amazing set on both discs. I saw Sloan two summers ago and it was awesome. My first time seeing them was well worth the wait.

6. Beck- Mellow Gold

7. The Eurythmics- Greatest Hits- Had to get some 80's retro. Gotta love Annie Lennox.

Total Cost- $30. You can get a card at Frizb's and they keep track, for every 10 you buy, you get one free. Be sure to check out their link on my side bar.

Thursdays at Frizb's

Today I decided since I won't be around Saturday that I would do Thursday at Frizb's. More than just buy CD's I wanted to see about a little promo deal with Frizb's and I got a chance to speak with the owner today. He is a great guy to talk music with and for the little time I have talked with him he is as knowledgeable about music as his collection is diverse.

I asked if he would be interested in promoting the Buffaloboy blog for my posts on Saturdays. He responded enthusiastically and I invited him to check it out. Hopefully this will lead to a nice productive relationship between us.

Now to my selections. Today they are full price which is $7:

1. Cracker- Kerosene Hat (features the song everyone knows "Low")

2. K's Choice- Paradise in Me (Had a nice hit in the 90's called "Not an Addict")

3. Yes- The Definitive Rock Collection (A nice double disc set that includes the important stuff from Classic Yes, Big Generator and 90125)

4. Led Zeppelin- Latter Days The Best of Led Zeppelin Volume 2. (A nice little set that includes my favorite Zeppelin tune of all House of The Holy)

My next time at Frizb's will probably be a week from Saturday as I will be in Brockport this weekend for a swim meet.

Saturday at Frizb's

This weeks pull from Frizb's was actually an event. My friend Rich came with me. He is a fine local musician here in the Buffalo area that happens to love collecting music as much as I do. He came with me to get the Frizb's vibe and loved it.

$5 Saturdays. Cheap enough for used CD's where if you want to take a chance on something you have heard of before but weren't sure you don't mind putting down the $5 to check it out. Also a good way to get music you have always wanted but never had the money to get. So without further delay here is my Frizb's take home for the week:

Suede- Dog Man Star (arguably their best album but some would say its their second best.)

Tanya Donnelly- Lovesongs for Underdogs (Who could pass up her heavenly voice)

The Beatles- White Album (Starting to explore the Beatles more lately)

Blur- The Great Escape

The Cure- Disintegration (A Classic, mine was scratched beyond recognition from playing it so for $5 why not.

Led Zeppelin- Houses of the Holy (A classic I have always wanted)

New Order- Get Ready (One of their recent yet still great albums)

Our Lady Peace- Naveed (A must have out of their arsenal)

The Tea Party- Slendor Solis (Their debut)

Treble Charger- Maybe It's Me (another great Canadian band)

All told  $53.....Not a bad take home for $53. At Best Buy or somewhere else this lot would run well over $160.

Saturdays at Frizbees

Frizbees is a record store about a block and a half away from my house. Saturdays is $5 per cd. The deal in used cds. Unlike most places they have some quality used selections. I got there everyother Saturday to check out whats in stock and pick up a few selections. It really is a good deal and a nice way to get new music into the collection. (and cheap too).

On the Saturdays I go I will share my Frizbees additions to my cd collection. Here is yesterdays haul:

Pulp- Countdown 1992-1983

The Tea Party- Transmission

Jan and Dean- All the Hits (Double CD for just $5)

The Beatles- Past Masters Volume 2

The Beatles- Anthology 3

Squeeze- The Singles

Trainspotting- The Soundtrack to the Movie Trainspotting

Not a bad take home for $35. The best thing about going to Frizbees is that for every 10 CDs you buy you get $10 off which you can use at any time. So I hit the 10 CD mark at number 3 this week so I actually got these for $25.

Stay tuned for future pick ups at Frizbees, Ill try to make this a regular.
