Sunday Retro: Apples and Oranges
Any die hard fan of Pink Floyd will tell you that the Syd Barrett years for the band were probably two of their best records.. I agree 100%, I loved the quirky, dark and sometimes light hearted psychedelia of those first two Floyd records.
This is Apples and Oranges by Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett who was the founder of Pink Floyd. Apples and Oranges was released in 1967 and it was the last song Syd would do with the band.
In 2008 The Trashcan Sinatra's a band out of Scotland released Oranges and Apples, a tribute to the late Syd Barrett who died in 2006:Category: Sunday Retro
Sunday Retro: Discovering Joe Jackson
I don't know why it took me so long to figure out Joe Jackson is that good. Every so often Id read an article about him or hear one of his songs and every time I hear him or read about him I love the music and read glowing reviews but never have i bought his records. So, the mystique kinda drove me to him yesterday.
I had an ITunes gift card burning a hole in my hand to redeem it for Joe Jackson's greatest hits (as a starting point). Suffice it to say, gift card well spent, the guy has a ton of great tunes, some of which I never really realized were him.
Thats one of the great things about music, its always there to be discovered and rediscovered. Hes been around for 30+ years and just now Im getting to his records.
I spent the better part of last night listening to his greatest hits collection a few times over. Any recommendations on his full length records? Where do I start to get into his full length albums?Category: Sunday Retro

I have to compare two songs this morning, Motley Crue's "Girls Girls Girls" and The Sex Pistols "Holiday in the Sun". Did the Crue rip off Holiday?
Leave your thoughts in the comment section.
Its mostly in the beginning of both songs but you can hear a little of Holiday throughout Girls, Girls, Girls.Category: Sunday Retro

The Church released Under the Milky Way back in 1988 and actually did pretty well here in the US for a while. To this day its one of my favorite Sunday morning tunes.

Sunday Retro
I hate those "One Hit Wonder" shows on VH1 Classic because alot of the artists are given that status if for no other reason than to fill up the 100 songs. There are plenty of artists with more than one successful song on that list.
This artist happens to be one of them. XTC is one of those groups that are on my Bucket List of bands that I really want to see. I am going to knock three off my list this summer hopefully with Tears For Fears, Huey Lewis and the News and Crowded House.
XTC has had a long career with most of their success coming in the 80's but for long time fans they have continued to be active even recently.
This week I dug up a tune I found myself singing along to on my way to swim practice this week called Generals and Majors:

Since 102.1, the Station formerly known by many as CFNY is no longer doing the Retro gig on Sundays I now provide quite the service. My blog maybe one of the few that will post content related to the old CFNY tunes played on Sunday nights.
Bjork I have always considered to be a female version of Peter Gabriel, I have no idea why they have never gone out on tour together what an amazing show they would put on between the two of them.
This is from Bjork's earlier days with her band The Sugarcubes. Probably Iceland's most famous export culturally at least besides volcanic ash and salted cod. This is a tune called simply "Hit".

Sunday Retro: Ça plane pour moi
Been off the Sunday Retro thing lately wanted to leave a post today of a little known musician who had an international hit in the late 70's that featured all French lyrics "Ça plane pour moi" by Plastic Bertrand who actually has quite the resume,
Most recently the song was featured in TV Promos for Gossip Girl.
The Damned used this song in English as "Jet Boy, Jet Girl"Category: Sunday Retro
Sunday Retro-Easter Edition
Jesus was resurrected today if you believe in that sort of thing and I figured for Easter I'd do one of my favorite Cult tunes of all time.
The Cult did a little resurrecting themselves, that we know took place, back in the day with a little tune called Resurrection Joe
Resurrection Joe was released as a bonus track on The Cult's first full length release in September of 1984 called Dreamtime, to this day one of my favorite records to listen to from the 80's, enjoy!:Category: Sunday Retro
Sunday Retro: Peter Gabriel's Magic
Peter Gabriel was just enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Genesis and so I was online checking out Peter Gabriel videos. I remember back then watching them in awe. There were music videos and then there were Peter Gabriel videos. The animation in them were second to none.
